The easiest way to read a Vedic chart is to begin with lagna, then identify house placements, major planets, and the strongest repeating themes. The chart may look different from a Western wheel, but the reading process becomes clear with practice.
Start with lagna
Lagna, or the ascendant, is the starting point of the chart. It sets the first house and frames the rest of the house sequence. In Vedic reading, lagna is a major anchor for understanding identity and chart structure.
Read planets by house and sign
Once lagna is known, check which planets sit in which houses and signs. Notice whether benefic or malefic planets emphasize particular areas such as career, partnership, or finances. Vedic reading often pays close attention to functional roles based on house rulership.
Notice strength and repetition
A single placement matters less than repeated signals. If the tenth house, its lord, and a major dasha all point to career focus, that theme becomes much stronger than one isolated chart feature.
Keep the first reading simple
Beginners do not need to jump into every advanced rule immediately. Start with lagna, house emphasis, key planets, and simple chart themes. Add yogas, dashas, and divisional charts later.
